Overview

CLEE’s Principal Residency Network (PRN) is a residency-based principal certification program (PK-12). It is approved by the Rhode Island Department of Education and informally approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Program available in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

For over 25 years, PRN graduates have been prepared to immediately step into leadership roles and hit the ground running. The PRN equips graduates to foster effective collaboration in their role and build a strong community around them. They learn to share leadership with their team to empower team members in their own roles.

Through real-world experience in their residency with a mentor principal, PRN prepares aspiring leaders to improve schools by becoming strategists, data analysts, and champions for students.

A defining feature of the program is a long-standing partnership with Johnson & Wales University (JWU) for concurrent enrollment in a principal certification program through PRN along with a doctoral or master's degree program.

Opportunity for Waiver & Emergency Licensed Leaders

Are you or do you know an amazing leader in your district on a waiver or emergency principal license who needs to enroll in an approved educator preparation program or complete an induction program tor successfully demonstrate the proficient skills, knowledge, and dispositions on DESE’s Performance Assessment for Leaders (PALs) tasks?

CLEE’s Principal Residency Network (PRN) is now an approved educator preparation program in Massachusetts, offering a unique opportunity for aspiring principals to earn certification through immersive, hands-on experience while continuing to serve their current school community. Take your learning and directly apply it to your everyday job. As an approved educator preparation program, enrollment in PRN-MA meets the requirement to extend many emergency licenses and/or obtain a licensure waiver for most candidates. Furthermore, the embedded mentorship and aligned curriculum support the specific needs of individual educators on their path to initial licensure

Typical Time/Scope

1 and 2-year pathways

Three 7-hour in-person network sessions
Two 6-hour school visits
Two Clinical Site Visits
Nine 2-hour virtual cohort sessions
Five virtual network session
Four 90-minute Community of Practice sessions
